“The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, came to Madina and saw the Jews fasting the day of ‘Ashura’ and said, ‘What is this?’ They said, ‘This is a holy day. This is the day when Allah rescued the Children of Israel from their enemy and so Musa fasted it.’ He said, ‘We have more right to Musa than you.’ So he fasted it and commanded that it be fasted.'”
“I did not see the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) consider the fasting of any one day better than any another except for this day, the day of ‘Ashura’, and this month, i.e. the month of Ramadan.”
The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said:
“The best of fasts after the month of Ramadan are in the Month of Allah, which you call Muharram. And the best of prayer after the obligatory prayer is the night prayer.”
As the moon was not sighted anywhere last night, we shall be completing 30 days for the month of Dhul Hijjah and the month of Muharra, 1433 will begin on Sunday 27th November 2011 insha Allah.
Happy Islamic New Year.
May Allah (SWT) grant us a prosperous year and shower us in His blessings – Ameen!
Ibn al-Qayyim Al Jawziyyah“He invited and they answered, with love and pleasure; When they called upon Him, nearer came the Divine treasure. You see them on their mounts, hair dusty and dishevelled, Yet never more content, never happier have they felt;” Continue reading A Hajj Poem by Ibn Al Qayyium→
