A ‘Fundamentals of Islam’ Course in London – Would You Be Interested

Assalamu ‘Alaikum,

I hope and pray that you are well.

Recently I have been looking around for a course that teaches the Fundamentals of Islam, i.e. the Fard al-‘Ayn knowledge that every Muslim is responsible for possessing. Unfortunately I was surprised to find very little out there that caters for this need. There are short courses, day intensives, and so on, on various topics that may cover parts of the Fard al-‘Ayn aspect of the Deen. However, there was nothing that was a comprehensive and structured course that covered the absolute basics of the Deen.

As a result of this, I was wondering if there was a demand for this type of course in London. If I was to arrange a venue and a suitable time (once a week), would people be interested in doing this type of course? If so please express your interest via the voting buttons above.

I was thinking to call it the ‘Fundamentals of Islam’ course that covers the absolute essentials of Islam, Iman, and Ihsan as per the Hadith of Gibril (AS) with a certificate to go at the end of the course.

I am not sure the length of time required for such a course but the following is just an idea/suggestion:

Fundamentals of Belief (Aqida/Iman) – 6 Weeks

To cover basic beliefs and the six pillars of Iman.

Fundamentals of Worship (Fiqh/Islam) – 12 Weeks

To cover the basic/necessary Fiqh of the five pillars of Islam

Fundamentals of Purification (Tazkiyyah/Ihsan) – 6 Weeks

To cover the basic aspects of Purification and Tazkiyyah and practical ways of developing Ihsan in ones actions.

If you have any ideas or suggestions please leave them in the comments box below.

Was Salam

  1. as salamu ‘alaykum –

there is a course currently running in Birmingham and various other cities in the east/west Midlands called “Path to Salvation”. It has – alhamduliLlah – a very beautiful structured teaching method and syllabus, and a correct mixture of old and new approaches – i.e. traditional dars from the classic kitab’s, combined with Powerpoint presentations, etc.

They are always looking to branch out into new areas – http://frinstitute.co.uk/

  2. Asslamo Allaikum,

These courses are a good idea but in my humble opinion the durations are a bit long, some of the courses should be compressed perhaps over a long weekend etc.

    Jazakullah Khairun

  3. I have approached Utrujj with the idea to see if they can cater for something like this. I am also considering approaching Sunni Courses to see if they can help. Insha Allah I will keep you guys posted on how I get on.

  4. Asalaamualaayykum

Jazakallah khair brother, I would definatley consider these courses because there’re not alot of courses available in London on these subjects.
These topic may be converd in masajids but since i am a sister i miss out on these opportunities for obvious reasons and i’m sure there are alot of sisters and brother out there who would welcome this insha’Allah.

I am very keen on the Tazkiyyah course, this is new to me and from my experience i have never come across a course in London of this topic.

  6. If you know of an organisations that are already running such courses in London then please let me know.

I know the West London School of Islamic Studies is running a series of courses similar to what I am proposing, but they are a bit of a distance to get to for those of us living in East/Central London.

  7. Why organise something new. when these cources are aready catered for by various organisation. Perhpas you can utitlise the existing organisation and simply advertise them. Allah knows best
