12 Muharram 1434 | Hadith of the Day | Protection from the Evil Eye with Talismans

Yahya related to me from Malik that Humayd ibn Qays al-Makki said,

“A man came to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, with the two sons of Ja’far ibn Abi Talib. He said to their nursemaid, ‘Why are they so thin?’ Their nursemaid said, ‘Messenger of Allah, the evil eye goes quickly to them. Nothing stops us from asking someone to make talismans (using ayats of Qur’an) for them, except that we do not know what of that would agree with you.’ The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, ‘Make talismans for them. Had anything been able to precede the decree, the evil eye would precede it.’ ”

It is related that Ibn ‘Abbas (RA) said,

“I did not see the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) consider the fasting of any one day better than any another except for this day, the day of ‘Ashura’, and this month, i.e. the month of Ramadan.”

Chapter Five: The Preparation

The day had finally arrived. For Afsana it came too quick. She was not sure what to expect and was nervous with butterflies in her tummy. It was a clear November morning, crisp but cold. The early morning sun shone through the window and reflected upon the wardrobe mirror. Afasana sat on her bed engrossed in her thoughts. “Afsana, come down my dear, breakfast is ready.” That was her mother calling from the kitchen. Afsana went downstairs and joined the rest of the family for breakfast. Continue reading Chapter Five: The Preparation

22 Dhul Hijjah 1433 | Hadith of the Day | The Punishments in the Grave

Ibn Abbas (Allah be pleased with him) narrates:

“The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace) once passed by two graves and said: “They (in the grave) are being punished not for a great thing to avoid” Then he added: “Yes, (they are being punished for a great sin), for one of them used to go about with calumnies (Slander) while the other never saved himself from the splashes of urine” Ibn Abbas said: “Then he (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) took a green leaf and split it into two pieces, then placed one piece on each of the two graves and said: “Their punishment may decrease until these two pieces become dry”

The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said:
