The House of Arqam (RA)
“O Prophet, Allah is sufficient for you, and the believers who followed you.” [Qur’an 8:64]
This is the approximate site where the house of Arqam (RA) used to be located. It was near the gate of mount Safa.
Arqam ibn Abi Arqam was one of the early converts to Islam. Arqam’s house was chosen as a meeting point as it was behind the Safa hill and therefore obscure to the pagans and chieftains around the Ka’bah and it was also easily accessible from the house of Khadija (RA) where the Prophet (peace be upon him) lived.
It was here at ‘Dar Al Arqam’ where the early companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him) would meet in secret to pray and study the religion. It was here where Umar (RA) accepted Islam and it was here that the above verse of the Qur’an was revealed to encourage the Muslims that Allah is on their side and that He would strengthen the religion with the likes of Umar (RA), Hamza (RA) and the other companions.
