12 Sha’ban 1433 | Hadith of the Day | On Honouring Guests, Maintaining Kinship Ties and Speaking Well

The Messenger of Allah (May Allah bless him and grant him peace) said:

“Anyone who believes in Allah and the Last Day should honour his guest. Anyone who believes in Allah and the Last Day, should maintain ties of kinship. Anyone who believes in Allah and the Last Day, should speak well or be silent.”

Quotes from Man and the Universe: An Islamic Perspective by Dr Mostafa Al Badawi

I have just completed reading Dr Mostafa Al Badawi’s Man and the Universe: An Islamic Perspective. As I was reading I took out a series of potent and piercing quotes that I posted on my Facebook and Twitter accounts. I have compiled and listed all of these quotes below under one post for easy reading [Apologies as I didn’t note down the page numbers as I went on].

‘How accurately this describes the Muslims of today: insignificant, weightless, carried by the tides of the times, lacking the moral fibre to accomplish whatever is required, jumping enthusiastically down every lizard hole that the non-believers care to dig for them.’

‘Western civilisation is the inevitable last stage in human degeneracy. The downward trend has been progressing for thousands of years, but its acceleration has now become insane.’

‘People are mentally imprisoned in the tangible world and this is precisely the dimension that the Imposter (Dajjal) will be able to master and he shall show them such wonders in that they will readily accept whatever claims he shall wish to make.’

‘The norm in Islam is thus the Sunna of the Prophet, may God’s blessings be upon him, and that of the Companions and Followers. The Sunna represents the very perfection of human behaviour and anything less than that is considered abnormal.’

‘Spiritual courage is to wage war against one’s egotism and to resist ones appetites.’

‘A good recent example of how Muslims wage war is Bosnia. The Bosnian Muslims were massacred, buried in mass graves, tortured, starved in concentration camps, and their women were raped. They never retaliated in kind. None of the war criminals under trial are Muslim. The Bosnians, being a traditional Sunni, Hanafi community, knew instinctively that to behave like animals meant relinquishing the honour of belonging to the community of Muhammad, may God’s blessings and peace be upon him.’

I would recommend the above book to anyone who would like to get a general perspective of the Islamic World View as the book is short, succinct and provides a good overview.

Benefit Dependancy and Work Ethics amongst Muslims

‘And We made the night and the day two signs. Then We effaced the sign of the night and made the sign of the day sight-giving; that you may seek bounty from your Lord, and that you may know the number of years and the reckoning, and everything We have detailed very distinctly.’ [Qur’an 17:12]

The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: “It is better for one of you to take a rope and bring a faggot of firewood on his back and sell it so that Allah gives him what he needs than for him to ask people who then give to him or refuse.” [Bukhari] Continue reading Benefit Dependancy and Work Ethics amongst Muslims

05 Sha’ban 1433 | Hadith of the Day | Everyone has a share of the reward for good deeds

The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said:

“When a woman gives in charity some of the foodstuff (which she has in her house) without spoiling it, she will receive the reward for what she has spent, and her husband will receive the reward because of his earning, and the storekeeper will also have a reward similar to it. The reward of one will not decrease the reward of the others.”

Moon Sighting Report – Sha’ban 1433

Assalamu ‘Alaikum,

Today marks the 1st of Sha’ban 1433. There were positive moon sighting reports from Morocco and South Africa last night and therefore the month of Sha’ban has now commenced.

May Allah grant us a long enough life span to meet the month of Ramadan with open arms insha Allah.

2. Have you signed the SRE petition (Tower Hamlets Residents Only)

From the website ‘We are a group of parents in Tower Hamlets who are concerned about the way in which Sex and Relationship Education (SRE) is being taught in our primary schools.

We believe the Council’s interference in primary schools and in particular the promotion of the Christopher Winter Project (CWP) is both unwarranted and effectively silences the voice of parents.

Government guidelines on teaching SRE places responsibility on governing bodies to consult parents when choosing SRE resources and writing a policy.

Governing bodies should decide on resources and an SRE policy free from council interference.

Please support us.

3. It’s Halal but is it Tayyib

Latest blog post from Abu Zaynah on the topic of Halal food. Please have a read and share your comments. Jzk.

Jazakum Allahu Khair for taking the time to read this email. May Allah bless you.

It’s Halal but is it Tayyib?

‘O mankind! Eat of that which is lawful and wholesome in the earth, and follow not the footsteps of the devil. Lo! he is an open enemy for you.’ [Qur’an 2:168]

Assalamu ‘Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakutuhu,

It’s Halal but is it Tayyib? – something to ponder.

This post will probably pose more questions than provide answers. However, I have decided to write it as it’s something that has begun to bug me recently and is something that’s on my mind at the moment.

Most of us that come from the Asian sub-continent, or even Muslims of other countries, will be used to eating meat on a regular basis. I believe that in most Bangladeshi homes a chicken/lamb curry is a standard dish on most if not all meal times. Given this fact it is surprising to see how few of us actually care about where our meat actually comes from and whether it is truly ‘Halal’. Continue reading It’s Halal but is it Tayyib?
