[Guest Post] Dying and Death are Painful and Hard

I am 48 years old and started as a volunteer with Eden Care UK a few years ago. I took part in over 136 burials with the Muslim Burial Fund and supported 42 Grenfell burials. Today was the first time I witnessed a brother die in front of me. The experience left me feeling numb and emotional, that is the best way I can describe my feelings. The experience upset me so much that I seriously considered leaving Eden Care.

I’ve done lots of challenging things in my life e.g. having guns pointed at me, knife attack, gang mediation, sexual exploitation, sexual assaults on children in my capacity as a Social Worker and other roles.

But death and dying work is on another level. I am usually a people’s person, and am able to make friends quickly. I like to work with those reaching the end life of their lives , I like to add value to their time while they are alive. But when my friends die, I find it difficult to handle. Reflection: Celebrity Deaths in 2016


2016 will be remembered as the year in which many famous celebrities passed away. Some reports suggest that up to 50+ famous people died this year. And even though we don’t know any of these people personally, the fact that they lived in the public domain and were ‘famous’ means that their death still hits us a little, particularly if we were a fan of that person.

This impact is felt more so when that public personality happens to be a Muslim, the likes of the boxer Muhammad Ali or the singer Junaid Jamshed or the philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi , whose deaths touched the hearts of millions of people worldwide.

However, the questions that we have to ask ourselves is, are we going to learn anything from these deaths? Or we are we just going to read about it in the press and on social media and then let it pass without any thought or pondering? Continue reading Reflection: Celebrity Deaths in 2016

09 Sha’ban 1433 | Hadith of the Day | The Son of Adam will only be satiated by Earth (i.e Death)


The Messenger of Allah (May Allah bless him and grant him peace) said:

“If the son of Adam possessed a valley full of gold he would want to have two valleys, yet his mouth will only be filled by earth. Allah turns towards those who turn in repentance.”
