Muharram 1437H Announcement:
‘On Monday, 13th October 2015 (29 Dhul Hijjah 1436 AH) many people from throughout UK have attempted to sight the crescent moon (Hilal) of Muharram after sunset.
Wifaqul Ulama announces that the Moon was not sighted anywhere in UK, South Africa or Morocco, therefore the start of Muharram 1437 is from Thursday, the 15th of October. Ashura (10th of Muharram) will correspond to Saturday the 24th of October, 2015)’ – Taken from the Wifaqul Ulama wesbsite.
It is related that Ibn ‘Abbas (RA) said,
“The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, came to Madina and saw the Jews fasting the day of ‘Ashura and said, ‘What is this?’ They said, ‘This is a holy day. This is the day when Allah rescued the Children of Israel from their enemy and so Musa fasted it.’ He said, ‘We have more right to Musa than you.’ So he fasted it and commanded that it be fasted.'”
The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said:
“The observance of three days’ fast every Month and that of Ramadan every year is a perpetual fasting. I seek from Allah that fasting on the day of ‘Arafa may atone for the sins of the preceding and the coming years. and I seek from Allah that fasting on the day of ‘Ashura may atone for the sins of the preceding year.”
