Ramadan 2017 Day #19

Assalamu Alaykum,

This Ramadan I would like to share a brief post with you every day asking you to do three things in the day as part of our 30 Day Ramadan challenge.

  1. The first will be a ‘Deed of the Day’ highlighting a different deed that you can do each day.
  2. The second will highlight a specific Prophetic Food that you can eat to incorporate a Sunnah Food item in your diet.
  3. The final will be a charity spotlight recommending a specific charity for you to donate a small sum to in order to support their work.

Let us begin below the actions for Day #19 bi’iznillah.

“Allah is more pleased with the repentance of His servant when he turns penitently towards Him than one of you would be on finding the lost camel.” [Sahih Muslim]

Prophetic Food of the Day: Milk

‘Surely there is a lesson for you in the cattle. We provide you, out of what lies in their bellies between feces and blood, the (drink of) milk, pure and pleasant for those who drink.’ [Qur’an 16:66]

Charity Spotlight: Support Victims of Grenfell Tower Block Fire

On Tuesday 14th June a huge fire has raged through the night at the residential Grenfell Tower block, with eyewitnesses claiming people were trapped inside.

More than 200 firefighters are still tackling the blaze at Grenfell Tower in north Kensington, where hundreds of people are thought to live.

All funds raised on here will support the victims and their families to rebuild their lives as well as provide immediate support to residents of the Tower by the local community such as food, clothing, essentials and toiletries. We will work with the local Emergency Services to ensure funds are distributed to help the victims and their families directly.

Please share the campaign and support the residents of Grenfell Tower with others so we can help the community at this tragic time.

Charity Spotlight: Eden Care

Increasing number of people are becoming terminally ill, put in care and reaching end of life. Black, Minority and Ethnic (BME) communities that once enjoyed strong family bonds are increasingly suffering alone despite receiving care and treatment. Traditional extended families are becoming strained due to younger generations becoming busy with work, education or complex nature of ill health of their loved ones. Often the sick and elderly are left alone in institutions or home.

Medical practitioners often give priority to clinical care and most institutions are not familiar or have the resources to provide care to accommodate the patient’s cultural, spiritual and social needs.  Eden Care UK will engage the service users in a culturally inclusive and religious sensitive manner to increase and enhance their quality of life through friendship and advocacy. Our services are for young people and adults who are terminally ill or reaching end of life.

Our volunteers reach out to needy individuals regardless of their background and help support them during the time of their need. We support needy individuals by providing specialised support, advocacy and befriending services, free of cost.

Prophetic Food of the Day: Quince

It was narrated that Talhah(R.A) said: “I entered upon the Prophet (ﷺ) and in his hand was some quince. He said: ‘Take it, O Talhah, for it soothes the heart.'” [Sunan Ibn Majah]

Charity Spotlight: HHUGS

Since 9/11, over 1000 Muslims have been arrested on terrorism charges. Most have been released, a few have been charged and are currently awaiting trial, while only a handful have actually been convicted of any terrorism offenses. Many foreign nationals have been placed under ‘control orders’ while others have been deported back to their home countries along with their wives and children.

For every arrest and detention, a home has been raided and ravaged and a family has suffered the loss of a loved one, a bread winner, a dear husband. a much loved son. These are homes where life will never be the same.

For many of these families, daily tasks have become difficult, they are struggling to make ends meet and transport to visit their loved ones is infrequent. On top of this, their friends have disowned them, their Mosques have abandoned them, and their communities have shunned them. They are lonely, vulnerable, and desperately in need of help.

Hhugs, Helping Households Under Great Stress, is a registered charity that was setup in September 2004 in response to the increasing number of ‘anti-terror’ arrests across the country. We provide support and advice to households affected by this legislation.

Prophetic Food of the Day: Pomegranate

‘He produces gardens, both cultivated and wild, and palm‐trees and crops of diverse kinds, and olives and pomegranates, both similar and dissimilar. Eat of their fruits when they bear fruit, pay their due on the day of their harvest, and do not be profligate. He does not love the profligate.’ [Surat al‐An’am: 141]

Charity Spotlight: Solace

SOLACE was set up in 2010 by a group of sisters who were concerned about the difficulties facing revert sisters both in the short and long term, and their variety of needs. Whilst there are many organisations within the United Kingdom catering for the educational and Islamic needs of revert sisters, there appeared to be a lack of support and provision of services catering specifically for the holistic needs of revert sisters. Recognising the need for an organisation with the aim of supporting revert sisters through their various difficulties led to the creation of SOLACE.

SOLACE is a support service for revert sisters in difficulty, regardless of whether they have been Muslim for 2 weeks or even 20 years; it supports them when they are going through life’s problems alone, suffering in silence, or even no longer enjoying their Islam. SOLACE is there to listen to them, empower them, and develop a mutual personal development plan which is realistic and person centric, and which will help them reach their short and long term goals.

Charity Spotlight: Eid Gifts of Happiness at Great Ormond Street Hospital

Eid Gifts of Happiness

This Eid we want to bring joy and happiness to children who are suffering from cancer at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Eid is a happy and festive time in the Muslim community but for many children suffering from life limiting conditions like cancer, Eid will be spent in hospital away from family and friends. This can be a particularly testing time for the children and we want to bring happiness to these children who are suffering from cancer and other illnesses at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Children like my nephew Musa who had undergone a bone marrow transplant recently from his 5 year old brother have had to battle cancer and endure medical treatment such as the extremely testing times of chemotherapy and on a day to day basis, which is physically and emotionally draining for these children who are aged between 1 – 16 years old.

We want these children to know that despite this difficult and testing time for them, there are moments of joy and sharing gifts with them this Eid will bring about happiness!

Charity Spotlight: Salam Jone’s East Africa Appeal

The world is watching again as East Africa plummets into a potential famine unseen in over 60 years.

12.4 Million people are in urgent need of food, water and medical assistance across East Africa. Parts of Kenya and Somalia have seen very little rain in the last 2 years resulting in a failure of crops, livestock and supply of safe water.

Unless we act now this crisis will start claiming lives putting at risk the young, frail and vulnerable.

Imagine a situation where a mother having to choose which one of her children she feeds based on their chances of their survival.

Please help us raise awareness and funds for these mothers so they do not have to make these heartbreaking decisions.

Muslim Charity is on the ground already working to enable food, water and medical distributions to the neediest and networking with other international agencies to make sure the global effort is collective and not in isolation.

This crisis is on a monumental scale and needs a equal response to make sure we save every single life.
