Ramadan 2017 Day #08

Assalamu Alaykum,

This Ramadan I would like to share a brief post with you every day asking you to do three things in the day as part of our 30 Day Ramadan challenge.

  1. The first will be a ‘Deed of the Day’ highlighting a different deed that you can do each day.
  2. The second will highlight a specific Prophetic Food that you can eat to incorporate a Sunnah Food item in your diet.
  3. The final will be a charity spotlight recommending a specific charity for you to donate a small sum to in order to support their work.

Let us begin below the actions for Day #08 bi’iznillah

Deed of the Day: Make Abundant Du’a

‘And for a part of the night, keep vigil therewith as a supererogatory [devotion] for you. It may be that your Lord will raise you to a praiseworthy station.’ [Qur’an 17:79]

Prophetic Food of the Day: The Fig

‘By the fig and the olive,’  [Qur’an 95:1]

Charity Spotlight: Mauritania’s first Eco-Mahdhara for Women

The Centre for the Mother and Child (Markaz Al-Umm wa al-Tifl) is a traditional educational institute (known as a Mahdhara) for women in Matamoulana, a village in the south east of Mauritania.

While teaching has been taking place for decades, at various venues in the village, in 2004, the institute was officially opened, and a small space was rented. Up until today, we use various venues, even though our classes have grown exponentially.

But we needed a bigger space. With the support of South African NGO, the Gift of the Givers Foundation, we acquired land in October 2015 and construction started in December 2016. We are are now looking for funding to complete the construction of our centre and kindergarten.

The success of this will mark the establishment of the one of the first Mahdharas in Mauritania dedicated to the education of women and children.
